The Third Annual Meeting of Mongolian Neuroscience Society (MNS) entitled “Multidisciplinary Brain Science” was successfully held on September 23 – 24, 2016 in Ulaanbaatar. This meeting has provided the impetus for the development of brain science in Mongolia by giving an opportunity to gather more than hundred specialists with many different but related backgrounds under the umbrella of brain science. Mongolian Neuroscience Society as the main organizer has arranged this meeting with the National Center of Mental Health, Mongolian Society of Psychiatry, Mongolian Neurologists Society, and Mongolian Epilepsy Research Society (co-organizers), and Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS) as the main partner organization. The Platinum Sponsor of the meeting was a local company, “Narantuul Group” LLC. The opening ceremony, held in the House of Parliament of Mongolia, was opened by the President of MNS, Dr. Damdindorj followed by the President of MNUMS, Dr. Batbaatar G, Director of Public Administration and Management of the Ministry of Health (MOH) –Dr. Oyunchimeg D, Head of the Department of Policy Implementation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Sports (MECSS) – Mr. Erdenechimeg N, and Chairman of Ulaanbaatar City Council – Mr. Sandui Ts.

Designated leaders in the region, Dr. Kyungjin Kim – President of Korean Brain Research Institute, Dr. Cheng-Ting Chien – Coordinator of Neuroscience Program in Academia Sinica of Taiwan, and Dr. Pike See Cheah – Vice President of Malaysian Society of Neuroscience have given plenary lectures about recent advances in brain science including the development of brain science in Korea, Taiwan, and Malaysia. As satellite events, we arranged Lobby Meetings with Policy Makers to raise the awareness of brain science including our distinguished guests, Dr. Kim, Dr. Chien, and Dr. Cheah, with the Chief of Staff of the Executive Office of the President – Mr. Bayarsaikhan Tsevelmaa, the Head of the Department of Policy Implementation of MECSS – Mr. Erdenechimeg B, and the Head of the Department of Policy Implementation of MOH – Dr. Enkhbold S. As all the state agencies stated that they will provide political support for the development of brain science, these in-person meetings were not only integral to the annual meeting but also highly effective for starting stable working relationships with the new government elected this year.

We are most thankful to IBRO lecturers, Dr. Masanori Murayama, Dr. Shigeyoshi Fujisawa, and Dr. Michael KH Ling for their great contributions to the development of brain science in Mongolia. The special lectures provided the most updated information covering the current areas of particular interest in brain science were made by those extraordinary talented principal investigators at RIKEN Brain Science Institute and Universiti Putra. These special lectures were made possible by IBRO/APRC Lecturer Exchange Program, and we are very grateful for this generous support.
