REPORT

The 8th Annual Meeting of the Mongolian Neuroscience Society titled The Multidisciplinary Brain Science 2021 was successfully held on August 13-14, in Ulaanbaatar. This meeting has brought together scientists with different yet related backgrounds with brain science under one umbrella theme “Multidisciplinary Brain Science-2021”. This international meeting included 2 plenary lectures by world-renowned neuroscientists and 2 symposia in basic (molecular and cellular) and clinical neuroscience by young leading neuroscientists from state-of-the-art facilities of developed countries. For local scientists, we held oral and poster sessions divided into different fields including neuroscience, neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, and psychology. The meeting was held virtually by using the Zoom app and a live stream on Facebook which brought together 2.6K online watchers. We have been asked to give interviews to many TVs, newspapers, and public journals including the National Broadcasting Television and Radio, the largest media channel in Mongolia.

The official opening of the meeting was started by the speeches of Prof. Damdindorj Boldbaatar (Vice President, Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences), Prof. Battuvshin Lkhagvasuren (Director, Brain Science Institute, MNUMS, and President, Mongolian Neuroscience Society), and Prof. Cheah Pike See (Chair of IBRO-APRC and University Putra Malaysia). There were 14 invited lectures by international speakers from 8 countries including Japan, Korea, China, India, Malaysia, Russia, and the Kyrgyz, as well as 4 local speakers. On day 1, Professor Mu-Ming Poo (Institute of Neuroscience, CAS, China) and Professor Tadashi-Isa (Kyoto University, Japan) have delivered admirable plenary lectures. The International Symposia lectures were presented by young Professors Kea Joo Lee (Korea), Anurag Kuhad (India), Tetsuya Hiramoto (Japan), Micheal King Hwa Ling (Malaysia), Anton A.Varlamov (Russia), Fei Peng (China), Ranjana Bhandari (India), and Elena Molchanova (Kyrgyz). 20 local attendees presented their recent works in oral and poster sessions in the fields of Neuroscience, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Social Psychology. The best oral presenter award was taken by Dr. Enkhzaya (Association between Alexisomia and Mental Health among Mongolians) and the best poster presenter award was taken by Dr. Enkhjin Bat-Erdene (Validation of WHOQOL-BREF in the Mongolian general population).
