About the School
IBRO-APRC Ulaanbaatar Associate School, a 6 – day school, will be designed for 20 graduate students in brain sciences from the countries of the Asian-Pacific region. The school will be jointly organized by IBRO-APRC, MNS, IBMAS, and MNUMS. In the first 4 days, the students will be provided with theoretical knowledge and technical skills for a better understanding of the essential principles and methods in cellular, systems, and clinical neuroscience with regard to lab skills including cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, real-time qPCR, cell viability assay, immunohistochemistry, and behavioral testing. The students will be introduced to basic knowledge in western blotting, tissue processing, staining, microscopy techniques, and handling techniques for rodents. In group discussions, students will be provided with Neuroethical issues and encouraged to give both poster and oral presentations about their current studies. They will be also asked to prepare for a Journal club by using a computer search for relevant articles on a given topic. Starting on day 5, students will be facilitated to join the IBRO lectures and plenary lectures at the 8th Annual Meeting of the Mongolian Neuroscience Society. To strengthen friendships between the guests and the hosts, the LOC will also arrange a half-day social activity with cultural exchange sessions after the official program.
Aims
The goal of the school is to equip participants with basic techniques in neuroscience. Apart from laboratory technique modules, students will receive exclusive lectures on cellular, systems, and clinical neurosciences. After completing this school, participants should understand the fundamentals of neuroscience and be able to practice western blotting, perfusion, staining, and microscopy techniques. They should be more motivated to conduct research in neuroscience by ensuring a high neuroethical standard.
Target Students
The target students should be researchers in neuroscience, medical, and life sciences as well as doctors working in the field of neurology/psychiatry, and postdocs. PhDs, MDs, MScs, and BScs from all institutions in the APRC Region below the age of 40 years.
Program
The school will include 4 theoretical lectures, 8 tech-talks, 8 laboratory hands-on sessions, and 4 group discussions by both international and local faculties.
